Green Meadow Waldorf School endeavors to cultivate a social, cultural, and educational environment that honors each child’s spiritual freedom and growth. Drawing inspiration from Rudolf Steiner’s insights into human development, the school nurtures children’s physical, emotional, and intellectual capacities through a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Green Meadow Waldorf School instills in its students the academic, social, artistic, and practical skills necessary for them to become self-reliant and generous individuals who can navigate future challenges.
As one of approximately 300 Waldorf Schools in the United States and around 1,000 worldwide, Green Meadow Waldorf School prides itself on a curriculum that prioritizes independent and critical thinking over standardized testing and Common Core standards. This approach fosters problem-solving skills, develops ethics and morality, and ignites a genuine joy for learning.
Among the few Waldorf schools in the region with a high school, Green Meadow currently serves around 225 students from Nursery through Twelfth Grade. The school offers a parent-child program for infants and toddlers from birth to age three. It also provides a dynamic Community Education Series that engages and supports parents and invites members of the larger community to participate in campus activities in Rockland County.
Green Meadow provides an affordable and flexible After-School Program for children in Nursery through Lower School. It operates until 6 p.m. daily and offers programs on most school holidays and breaks. The academic program is complemented by athletics and extracurricular activities, offering students a wealth of options after school. With access to NYC busing, the school welcomes a diverse range of families.
The foundation of Waldorf Education rests on the understanding that each child progresses through three distinct phases of development:
1. Infancy and Early Childhood (0-7 years)
2. Middle Childhood (7-14 years)
3. Adolescence (14-21 years)
Each of these stages necessitates a tailored approach to effectively address the growing child’s intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs.
