Sparrow’s Nest is a registered charity that aims to provide home-cooked meals to families dealing with a cancer diagnosis in Dutchess, Putnam, and some parts of Orange, Ulster, and Northern Westchester counties. The organization was established in 2012 and has been able to feed an average of 300 people every week, which is over 2,000 individuals since its establishment. Sparrow’s Nest of the Hudson Valley offers two meals every week to the families of children and caregivers diagnosed with any form of cancer.
Caregivers are legally responsible for children below 18 years of age and living in the same household. Patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery qualify for the program. All beneficiaries must live within a 35-mile radius of the charity’s health department-approved kitchen located in Wappingers Falls.
Sparrow’s Nest Programs
In addition to delivering homemade meals to our families each week, Sparrow’s Nest offers added services designed to relieve the daily burden of caring for a young family while struggling through the uncertainties of cancer.
Our Supplemental Food Program provides extra groceries and weekly meals to families identified as at-risk or low-income.
Our Camp Sparrow Program provides families with easy lunch meals, fresh fruits and veggies, and extra snacks during the summer when children are home from school.
Our Aftercare Program provides for the continued delivery of homemade meals to our families for up to one year after the loss of a loved one due to their cancer diagnosis. The charity spends an average of $10,000 weekly supporting Hudson Valley families facing a cancer diagnosis.
