In the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York, Rusty Dorr has dedicated over 50 years to crafting Native American and American western-inspired unisex outerwear and accessories. Using only the finest materials, such as American Deerskin, Spanish Lamb, and wild furs, each piece is meticulously cut, punched, and laced by hand. Rusty’s attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and use of hair pipe and beadwork have established her remarkable reputation over the past five decades. Expanding her collection, Rusty introduced the Classic Field Jacket and has since created new pieces such as the Night Rider, American Spirit Embossed Shearling, Fantasia, Ghost Rider, Ghost Rides Again, and Turtle Duster, incorporating Spanish Lamb (Toscana), Rex, and Shearling. In 2000, Rusty opened a second studio, offering appointments for individuals to browse and try on her exquisite creations. She finds the Catskills the perfect setting to practice her craft, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding her.
All garments are meticulously constructed from North American Deerskin, Elk, Moose, or Bison, with hand-cut lacing primarily made from deer. Unlined coats and jackets are the norm, except for fur styles. The only machine work utilized is sewing fur pelts and creating shoulder pads. Intricate braiding is applied to all seams, details, and holes, imparting a unique style and integrity to each piece when worn.
The deerskin comes in various colors: black, cedar, chocolate, cream, forest, leaf, mahogany, palomino, purple, red, walnut, timber, white, and more. Unless otherwise specified, European-style buttons are made from bone, horn, silver, abalone, or antler. The patterns are designed to be unisex and accommodate individuals of all sizes and shapes.
