Since 1989, Birdhug Studio has been creating handmade wooden bird carvings. Customers can order these beautiful birds directly from the artist, not a distributor.
Jenny Zhi, who lives in Rosendale, New York, with her husband Yao Ming and their three beautiful children, operates Birdhug Studio. This family-owned and operated business was started in late 1989.
The carvers are self-taught and started carving birds as a hobby. 1995 they achieved remarkable success, winning first, second, and third place at the Wildlife Carving Festival in Kingston, New York.
Since the late 1990s, Birdhug Studio has been training several artists at its studios. Today, its bird carvings are available in many galleries and private collections worldwide. Birdhug Studio offers original bird carvings at the lowest price possible, ensuring timely and cost-efficient shipping.
Carving Process
- Shape sketched on a rough-cut piece of basswood with a bird pattern.
- Hand chisels are used to cut wood and add details.
- Foredom woodcarving power tools are used to polish the bird.
- A burning pen adds more details, defining each feather.
- Both the bird and base are finished with acrylic paints.
- Glass eyes and bronze feet are added.
- The bird is then mounted.
