The Frederick W. Vanderbilt Garden Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to restoring and caring for the formal gardens at the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site in Hyde Park, NY.
Founded in 1984 by a small group of gardeners, the association aimed to revive a neglected garden with limited resources but a strong vision. Over the years, many individuals have joined the cause, rejuvenating the formal gardens, which now boast over 4000 annuals, 2000 perennials, and hundreds of roses annually.
Since 2010, the volunteers of the FWVGA have collectively dedicated over 207,000 hours of work. This remarkable effort is equivalent to 5181 weeks of full-time work or one person working 40 hours per week for nearly 100 years, underscoring the profound impact of their contributions.
