The Gardner Farm Inn offers an exceptional lodging experience surpassing anything chain hotels provide. The Inn was originally built in the Federalist style during the 1700s. Renovations in the latter part of the nineteenth century incorporated Greek Revival and Italianate style elements.
In the past, a tunnel was excavated under the Brunswick Road leading to the Poestenkill River, which directed fresh water to a cistern in the basement. This freshwater was a luxury at the time and was utilized for cooking and bathing. Although it is not documented, the old Gardner Farm was believed to be a safe house on the Underground Railroad, and the tunnel was used to aid enslaved fugitives on their journey to freedom.
